On Wednesday, November 6th, Cobalt & MVision Private Equity Advisers co-hosted an event around how GPs and LPs can bridge the data gap. This event featured Jim Strang, Managing Director and Head of EMEA for Hamilton Lane, and Chris Davison, Partner at Permira, discussing the attraction of European investments, the rise of mega funds and using technology as a competitive edge.
During the discussion, panelists addressed how Europe is still an attractive investment area for private markets dollars with a multitude of GPs and LPs interested in investing in this region. However, the purveying challenge remains the exchange rate between the euro and the dollar. Both Jim and Chris argued that European investors, in particular, should consider investing in managers who are also domiciled in Europe to minimize exchange rate risk.
The topic then transitioned to how investors can best differentiate between managers. When looking at European managers, both have seen how investors are focused on top-quartile managers with funds that fit in their desired allocation and fulfill their manager evaluation process. Jim then references how Hamilton Lane leverages technology platform Cobalt LP to simplify this process:
